VW Beetle Powered By Human Waste Makes Debut

A Volkswagen Beetle dubbed the “Bio-Bug”, built for
British sustainable energy company GENeco
by UK’s The Greenfuel Company has debuted and is powered by human waste.

The Bio-Bug’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine was converted to run on biogas and still hit about 114 miles per hour. The Bio-Bug uses regular unleaded gas to start, then switches over to methane automatically once it’s running.

According to GENeco, “waste flushed down the toilets of 70 homes is enough to power the Bio-Bug for a year, based on an annual mileage of 10,000 miles.”

One sewage treatment plant could keep cars running for 5,400,000 miles each year.

This conversion technology has been used in the past but the Bio-Bug is Britain's first car to run on methane gas without its performance being reduced. BioBugs powered by biogas perform just like any conventional car.
