Unlike some, I do know we always need rain. we live in a DESERT. Silly People! And rain = SNOW PACK. No rain = NO SNOW PACK. Which means no water which means less water which spells D R O U G H T.
Ugly reality of our lovely central valley.Bad bad bad word if you are a gardener. I can use less water, I can be water wise , I can use drips and propate mostly drought resistant plants. But in the end of the day i do need some water. My veggies need water. My roses need water. My household needs water. SOME water. And its really very very irking if I can be so careful, then drive by an apartment complex or shopping mall or golf course where of course they can water the cement for all they care! (many golf courses have some conscience and better practices but not all and all that green does come at a price). So welcome rain, welcome snow! I and my dear garden welcome you both and imagine the heat will come too soon!
We have lots of things popping right now--fruit trees are just itching to get out there and I have in fact heard a few bees calling them. They said wait on the blossom trail for a couple of days last week or so, but theres some pulsing up there in them hills. Freezing temps didn't quite materialize on the valley floor
so I and anyone else doing seedlings for summer are grateful (hopefully you mulched anything important).
It's hard to believe we live in such incredible beauty all year round and we forget until the sun hits those white peaks and glints into your eyes and says "WAKE UP! This is one of the most wonderful valleys in the world. How can you keep letting smog steal this pleasure from your children's children's children?"
Well, at least I think that's what the snow covered mountians would say if the could speak anyway.
