Weather pretty cool, turning over the soil and night is warming. So is it time to plant? Yes. Maybe, No? what are you planting and how much can you afford to lose and do over? Are your plants really hardy and ready to go? or could they stand a little more growth? Can you sow some seed now and wait a couple of weeks?

I always want to go NOW. And I really need to prepare the soil better. I need to move slower, do my best to gauge night temperatures better, dig in that compost. And one thing I do is plant among my other landscape plantings--in my regular garden you will find a couple of tomatoes in a pot with roses, Oregano in with bulbs, salvia or geraniums. Peppers get some thymes, bulbs or whatever. In the bigger vegetable garden I also interplant (like "Carrots love Tomatoes.") Cucumbers by the way don't like strong herbs, so I'm not planting them with basil. But I will plant the basil behind peppers or eggplant to get some sun protection.

Peas went in early, beans have been planted in succession, but eggplants, tomatoes and squashes are plants waiting for the right time. it might be today. . .tomorrow. . . or not.

It's enough to be outside again in good weather, working in the coolness and enjoying the dirt and planting. It will be too hot too soon.
