My old professor at Cal Poly used to say, "Did you know that in terms of using your energy to get you around, riding a bicycle is about three times as efficient as walking?" Wikipedia agrees.

Because Fresno is so flat, and sadly almost entirely paved over, you can get just about anywhere on a bike around here in no time. This is a great place to ride a bike, whether to get where you need to go or to ride just for fun.

There's quite a bit of social riding, too. There are fun groups of Punk Riders, there are Crazy Weirdo-bike Folks, there is some kind of Downtown Tuesday Ride Group, and of course the Speed-Racing Roadbikers.
