- I am a 3rd generation electrician who became interested in alternative energy in the mid 70's. I have a C-10 and General Contractor's "B" license. I have been installing/working on solar systems since the 1992. I formed Sol-tek Industries, Inc. with the owners of Westech Systems, Inc. in 2007. At present, due to differing management styles, I am divesting myself of Sol-Tek. I have went back into business on my own as Advanced Energy and Comfort Solutions.
While attending P.G.& E classes to keep updated on solar changes, I learned about a 9 day class that everyone raved about. I decided to take it to see what all the hype was about and learned about Building Performance. I learned that this is a science that is much greener than solar. Putting solar in does not fix the building being poorly built which well over 95% of buildings in California are even new Title 24 homes due to our forgiving climate. By fixing the house first, you can reduce the amount of the solar you need. Look at my website, www.reducemypgebill.net to learn more. This is a technology promoted by Built It Green who is now working with the California Building Performance Contractor's Association. Make sure that if you do hire someone to do building performance that they are a member of the CBPCA or Build It Green and have taken the training. There are several people in the Fresno/Clovis area who are qualified to do home performance. P.G. & E. have just announced rebates of up to $3500 depending on the amount of home performance renovation you do.
