San Joaquin Valley Regional Green Jobs Summit at Holiday Inn Downtown

December 10, 2009 from 8:30am to 3:30pm
The Regional Green Jobs Summit is a collaborative effort working to create awareness, set a platform for ‘Green Deal’ partnerships and develop an agenda with national implications for communities most in need throughout the San Joaquin Valley. There are three fundamental reasons why the inaugural Green Jobs Regional Summit will be held in Fresno:• Most importantly to build awareness of the severity on the need to make the projects for clean energy and green jobs that pays livable wages in the…See More

About
I just moved back to the foothills outside of Fresno after 5 years studying and working on Sustainability in Santa Cruz, CA and Santiago, Chile. I'm working for my Dad right now, denailing, milling, and advertising Reclaimed Lumber. I love the work and am very proud of our family business (Crossroads Recycled Lumber, see the link below!). Ultimately, though, I would like to work on issues of institutional change in Fresno and the valley and I think that Green Jobs is a great movement and this city could benefit greatly from it.

Reclaimed & Remilled Lumber

Here I am back home in the Valley (well, the foothills) after 5 exciting years in Santa Cruz and Chile. At 23 I'm living with my mom and working for my dad, but I dig it.

My job right now is doing outreach for my dad's business, Crossroads Recycled Lumber in North Fork, California (http://www.crossroadslumber.com). I'm supposed to get our name out there and let architects and institutions that are building green know primarily about reclaimed lumber, and secondarily about Crossroads.… Continue

Green Fresno by 2025

Do people even know about this "plan"? I first found it about a year ago when I was trying to figure you what to do after college. I called up to see if they had any positions open but they said they didn't. :( Quite frankly it doesn't seem very high on the city's list of priorities.

Fostering a Sustainable Fresno Community

I am SO EXCITED that this site exists! I WANT a Sustainable City! I BELIEVE in a Green Fresnan Future!

My name is Sophie, I grew up in the foothills outside of Fresno (near Millerton Lake). In 2004 I graduated from Sierra High School and went off to UC Santa Cruz where I became thoroughly involved in their Student Environmental Center and the Campus Sustainability Movement. I learned to live and breathe sustainability, and after I graduated this past June (2008) I went on to be hired… Continue

Hi Sophie, very pleased to be able to write to someone interested in the enviornment. The more I write about the environment and learn about our history as to why we are in this enviornmental haze it has a tendency to be aggravating. Nonetheless, we all need to breathe.

Rather than going into long ramblings about the car culture, people only do what is available to them. People in Fresno will never ride a light-rail system until it is avaliable. People will only continue adding to the poor air quality and sprawl until an alternative is offered.

Are you aware that there are over 40 miles of existing allocated Light-Rail Rights-Of-Ways within the city limits of Fresno and Clovis? And: Fresno has NO plans of every using those ROWs? There is a 2025 City of Fresno General Plan and the COG (Council of Governments) 2050 Plan for land use and transportation.

Central Transit & Development Corp (CTDC) has a feasible transportation project that is a viable plan for allowing Fresno to reach AB32 targets and the state mandates set with SB375. CTDC is a private corporation and has chosen Fresno because of its abundance of existing light-rail ROWs to begin a new paradigm in mobility. Mobility is the fundamental element to land use planning and urban growth.

This project is poised to launch immediatly, providing you are still interested in this type of project, I would like talking to you.

The website is very genericly worded and shows little detail but, should give you a vague insight to what this project is: www.centraltransit.com

Again, providing you would be interested in talking, please send an email to the website or to me: jpatrick@centraltransit.com
