Local Produce

I've recently been trying to eat more locally. When we sojourned in Visalia there was a great little weekly Farmers Market convenient to our apartment. Here in Fresno, we live near Simonian Farms, and I bought a lot of fruit over the year, but I missed the veggies and sometimes the packaging was too much for the two of us. All the Farmers Markets are too far across town to be convenient. So this month I signed up for a CSA. Farmer and the Dale is located in Reedley, but they do a weekly run to… Continue

Should Nuclear be part of our energy solution?

Since moving here, I've been surprised by the amount of support for a local nuclear facility. I realize the technolgy has improved somewhat, but I have some big concerns: waste disposal, water use, safety, time to construct and cost. I also have to ask In Whose Backyard?

La Querencia Co-Housing, A Sustainable Green Community in Fresno

Check out the new eco-friendly community in North Fresno. Four years in development, a half-dozen founding families worked with architects to create a project that combines private townhomes with extensive common facilities. In order to live in a multi-generational environment that encourages co-operative living, they planned smaller living spaces (1,100 to 1900 sq ft) based on LEED standards. Common areas include a pool, children’s play areas, spa, gym, workshop, bike garage, guest quarters,… Continue

Yes, we rode from Vancouver, BC to Tillimook, OR. There was a mechanical problem with the bike that could not seem to be fixed. I fell once too many times because of the problem, and I was tired of kissing the asphalt. I guess the Universe has other plans for me right now. It is not over though.

Hi Sally,
Ms Spirit moves in many strange and mysterious ways and disguises. The evening gown just didn't fit with the outdoor motif. :-)

Hi Sally,

I was just checking out La Quinceniera (I assume this is the Fresno co-housing community); liked the concept, and I recognized the architectural firm that designed it too.

I grew up here in Fresno, lived in Northern California for about the past 12-13 years, and just a year ago moved back. I NEVER would have expected Fresno to have anything like this, also impressed with the recycling program here. I still think that Fresno is behind as far as most peoples attitudes are concerned, but thrilled that things like this are taking root.

Hi Sally:
I have some fascinating info concerning "Renewable Energy'' for the San Joaquin Valley valley, funded by the Economic Stimulus bill, that I'm sure you'd appreciate located on my website. Please check it out & tell me what you think. http://www.henryandersons.org

Salley,
Welcome to this brand new online community. It is great to have someone like yourself as a part of this conversation. Your eco choices clearly demonstrate the level of committment to more a sustainable way of living. Feel free to post more details on what, how and why for these and other things you may be considering. Education is key to people making informed decisions here. Again, welcome.
