This is cool. Now I want an iPhone. It would be extra nice to be able to connect a little portable air quality sensor to assess the actual criteria pollutants wherever one finds him/herself. Such mechanisms currently exist but are small back pack…

Hi Rey,
I just found you on this Green Fresno site, and I'm about to go out of town for 3 weeks on Saturday but before I go I really wanted to connect with you so I don't forget when I come back. The LEAP program sounds amazing and I'd love to pick your brain about it. I just moved back to town (well, to the foothills outside of Fresno) after studying and working on Sustainability in Santa Cruz for 5 years. I've kind of been thinking about "what I want to do with my life" and was toying with the idea of bilingual environmental education (I majored in language studies- Spanish and Hebrew, and minored in Sociology at UCSC). Also I think I spent most of my college career passionate about ecological sustainability, and the last couple of years have grown to understand that sustainability is about the human race and community.

Anyway, the idea of green jobs really resonates with me and I was stoked to find you and your program. I don't have much personal experience with issues in the valley itself, but especially since the 3 big lumber mills in the area shut down around 93 there's been a lot of poverty up here in the foothills. Right now I'm working for my dad at his Reclaimed Lumber mill that employs some of the local guys. I think it's a great example of green jobs and am proud of the family business, though honestly he doesn't have the capacity to hire all that many folks from the community.

Well like I said, I'm really glad to have stumbled upon your page and look forward to hearing more about LEAP and the SJVRGJC (quite the acronym!) and what you all are doing. Who all is part of your coalition? How actively and specifically are you working on the campaigns outlined on your wordpress site? What are some challenges and what kind of support do you need?

Take care and stay in touch,
Sophie

Hi Rey:
How are you doing? Re: Stimulus Bill. Does your organization have anything in the works to take advantage of the Stimulus Bill in the latino community?

Hi Rey:
I am looking forward to working with you on your goals for the latino community.
Diabetes is rampant in the latino & black community. Through nutritional education diabetes can be brought under control.
Actually the solution is quite simple. A diet high in leafy green vegetables, fruits, nuts, berries, herbs will start to combat both diabetes & obesity. What is not simple is changing peoples' eating habits..
Chlorophyll the green pigment portion of leafy green vegetables is key to optimal health. The cell nucleus of chlorophyll is magnesium the dynamo that powers over 300 enzymatic functions in the body. Regulation of: Heart attack/stroke, pancreas, immune system, weight loss, endocrine function, good circulation & many more functions can't happen without 7-11 servings of leafy green vegetables a day.
If you look at my website http://www.henryandersons.org nutritional page entitled chlorophyll solutions, you'll see that concentrated leafy green chlorophyll concentrate supplementation is a good way to get concentrated chlorophyll nutrition.
Also, I would like to meet with you to discuss: a pre-fab post & beam green home factory, preferably in downtown, which is in the "Enterprise Zone'' where minorities can get added incentives to enter the business world.
Also re: green jobs. I sell a bio-diesel generator that puts out 12,500 watts an hour. If you put this generator in your back yard & ran it 20 hours per day for 30 days, you would generate $750.00 a month in revenue & not have a PG&E bill; how's that for an "Economic Stimulus''?
We're going to need Green Techs to put kits into diesel generators to convert them to 100% vegetable oil use. These diesel generators are one of the worst forms of pollution in the valley & need to be replaced. We'll need workers who have good mechanical aptitude to tear the old diesel generators down & put the vegetable oil kit in. Also I have access to get the kits for the bio-diesel generators as well as engines built from scratch to burn 100% vegetable oil to replace diesel engines in: Big rigs, diesel generators, autos, buses, farm equipment tractors, water pumps any equipment that burns diesel right now can be converted. Money from the Stimulus Bill should easily cover the startup fees for this.
Also, a lot of latino construction workers are out of work. One solution is to bring all "Green Jobs'' under one roof. The pre-fab green house factory combined with contracts to: retrofit existing buildings with "Renewable Energy & Green products, FORECLOSED HOMES & businesses will create 10's of thousands of "Green Jobs'' here in Fresno.

Hi Rey:
I have some really exciting news on my website http:www.henryandersons.org that would really enable the Latino community to get involved with "Renewable Energy'' here in the valley. This is a once in a lifetime change to use money from the Stimulus Bill to get "Green Resources'' into the hands of Latino people. Hope you take a look at it & let me know what you think of it. Thanks, Henry Anderson, Henry Anderson's NatureLife
