Friendliest Metro Roads for Biking?

So I just started a second job 3 weeks ago working for a local ambulance company and since HQ is only 5 miles from my house and there is a locker room where I can get cleaned up before my shift, I started biking (which has been just awesome, BTW). My issue is that it is so hard to find the 'best' route to and from since only certain major roads have true bike lanes and even some of those are so pitted and rutted you almost have to ride the gutter.  So I wondered, has anyone started a list of…See More

"Not solar electric. Maybe you could work on a diy solar thermal project with something black in a window that heats up in the sun and then radiates into the room. Is this more along the lines of what you were thinking about?"

DIY Solar

So, here's the thing. I live in a small duplex (~800sqft) that gets tons of sun from sun-up to about 4 in the afternoon. I've been contemplating solar for some time after reading "The Renewable Energy Handbook", but my question is this..... Can I implement solar in some small way myself without having to shell out 1k to one of the contractors that installs? Does anyone know of 'kits' or do-it-yourself resources for this? I'd appreciate any direction.....Cheers,KatSee More

Living in a duplex means you should probably check with your homeowner's association prior to doing anything to the outside. There is a new product that is available in Fresno now, which is a dual sided SVC, so you get the sun that bounces off the building and the sidewalk on the underside, which is used as very nice looking solar awning. A good place to start would be to sell the entire complex on the solar awnings... for solar electric. Let me know if you are interested and I can give you more information.
