John Warner commented on Tom Cotter's blog post 'American-bashing misses the point when climate talks fail'
Great post, Tom. But, alas, the writer's admonishment to not abandon the political system is much like putting one's hopes on a distant star. Essentially, have but right and left wings of a single Corporate Party rather than the widely…

John Warner commented on Tom Cotter's blog post 'Solar cooking enthusiast'
As a proponent of Peak Oil Theory my interest in solar cooking focuses more on survival options than fun. Peak Oil is serious business and the latest out there, within the past couple of months, are similar reports from the US Department of Energy…

I'm an Edward Abbey fan, John, so I reluctantly welcome those four horsemen. Abbey of course is the one who said, "Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of a cancer cell." The horsemen will carry with them saddlebags full of a…

Chip Ashley commented on John Warner's blog post 'Comment on Central Valley Water Forum'
Thanks, John. If we Homo sapiens don't get more sapient than we apparently are--our inability to control ourselves and our greed--we will prove ourselves in the end no smarter than a culture of bacteria in a petri dish, whose growth and…

Comment on Central Valley Water Forum

Thanks to the organizers and presenters at the forum yesterday. I was very favorably impressed and surprised also at the turnout of mostly progressives.Particularly, I'd like to comment on Dr. David Cehrs' [spoken "sears"] presentation. Dr. Cehrs is a hydrologist and professor at Reedly College and was right on the number speaking about the unsustainability of water demand. His comments were directed at the situation here in the San Joaquin Valley but they could have just as well be directed at…See More

The World is in Hot Water

Hello Fresno Greens, I've taken the liberty to paste below today's email from Lester Brown's Earth Policy Institute which I regard as the net's premier website on environmental issues and sustainability. I installed 96 square feet of collector on my house in Thousand Oaks, CA in the 1980s and took it with me when I moved here in 1992. But, alas, I have yet to install it on my home in Madera but I'm sure it's still good. My site is a difficult one--roof slopes to the east and west and some…See More

About
Hello Greens,

I'm glad to find this site. I'm the originator of the Whole Systems Agriculture concept which you can find out more about by visiting our website. This is a no-tillage, no tractor way of growing food and other horticultural products that has competing successfully with tractor agriculture since 1996. We are also known as the Flowergarden of Madera and do business at the Vineyard Farmers Market, corner of Shaw and Blackstone, also since 1996, where you can find one of my sons selling our products every Saturday morning and Wednesday afternoon. At age 74, I'm in the process of stepping into retirement and am finding time to be more active in our community.

The Big Picture on Water

Here is a copy of a comment I recently posted on Lloyd Carter's website. Mr Carter is a lawyer specializing on water issues

The big picture

Submitted by John Warner (not verified) on Sun, 01/03/2010 - 14:36.

The earth's 6.5 billion people represent a number well over sustainable carrying capacity. Present carrying capacity is only possible because of exploitive mining of non-renewable resources--principally petroleum and fossil water.

Nearly all irrigated… Continue
