Hey Brad,

Glad to see you on this website! That is one nice looking rig. Very professional!  Tom didn't tell you but the reason he is selling one of the Jettas is he owns an all electric Nissan Leaf...us green Fresnans are, well, green with envy.  Another outlet that may be of interest to you is Fresno Earth Day.  There is a community of people who put on a super-cool, family friendly show that showcases many different aspects of being good to the earth.  There is a planning meeting at the UU Church in Fresno on Monday, the 5th at 6:30 pm.  I know you live a ways north, but if you're interested let me know.  We had around 1,000 people attend last April.  See you around!

Yeah, we're outgrowing the beetle . . .might go up to a passat or the 320CDI Benzo.  I do enjoy the old 240 immensely tho . . .just has that certain old leathery classic smell inside.

Hi, Pete, I don't have a tractor yet...researching building a solar house. I think one could convert a small tractor to generator status, good tool to solve a multitude tasks. Thanks for your answers. I looked at your profile and would like to talk diesels with you one of these days. I marked April 30th on the calender, should be there the second half.

Hi Joel,

Yes, your tractor will probably run on waste oil without a lot of modification.  It doesn't have emission controls or catalyst, does it? Yes, both grease and biodiesel have shelf life limitations. Biodiesel is good in storage for about 6 months without any special prep.  Preservatives are available that push that out to 2 years...yes preservatives, the same thing that keep a twinkie fresh for years.  If you are interested in biodiesel, that is my expertise, and your tractor will run on biodiesel as is.  We will be having a renewable energy car show at Fresno Earth Day celebration Saturday, 30 April from 11-4. At the UU Church parking lot near Chestnut and Alluvial.  There will be biodiesel cars, demonstrations, and waste oil converted cars, as well as a Chevy Volt, electric motorcycle, hybrids, etc.  If interested you should come by and bring the family/ a friend. Cheers!

Well, I hope this group goes again...with prices right at 4 bucks....Gordon that is a cool crown.....What is the shelf life of fryer oil?  Gas and Diesel get old as I understand.       Has any of you converted a tractor to grease?   Nice to meet you all too.

I have a bio diesel plant in New Orleans. I built it after hurricane Katrina know to fuel disaster relief and reconstruction efforts. I've talked to the guys at greasecar.com about coverting our crown bus to run on grease. I'm now creating a network of green veterans and supportive organisations with events that the bus would attend to demonstrate our green disaster relief and reconstruction efforts.

Hey Gordon...to run biodiesel you don't modify anything....just fill your diesel tank and go. To run straight grease you do need to modify the fuel storage and delivery somewhat. Tom Cotter has run grease for years, but with much smaller Volkswagen diesel motors. Ken Friesen has done many of these modifications on volkswagens, maybe he could scale up for you. Hope this gets you going in the right direction. If you want to make or buy biodiesel, I can help you in those specialties. Cheers! Pete

I want to conver this bus to run on grease and biodiesel. Then I'll turn it into a veteran run disaster relief and reconstruction vehicle. We have a satellite internet system for it so that we can communicate from the road. After hurricane Katrina we were the only ones to have the ability to communicate since there was no cell or phone service in southern Louisiana for months. Having it run on grease will allow us to travel the country with minimal expense. Using solar powered refrigeration and water purification we can demonstrate how sustainable disaster relief can be under the worst circumstances.
