it is a free site to post any extra veggies, fruits, nuts, or tools. either for trade or sale. it is a great idea, but there has been little to no activity in the Fresno area.

i checked out neighborhoodfruit.com, another great site. nothing in fresno though...closet find to me was 115 miles away. it would be awesome if fresno could get something going. i thought the "homeless garden" was neat.

Hello Greens,

My name is John Warner and I'd like to invite readers of this blog to the Vineyard Farmers Market at the northwest corner of Shaw and Blackstone Avenues in Fresno. The market has been there for 30 years and our business, Flowergarden of Madera aka Whole Systems Agriculture has been there for half those years.. The market is open the year around on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Please see a list of vendors and photos of the market at http://vineyardfarmersmarket.com

Unique features of our farming practices include no-tillage, no-tractor growing on beds permanently covered with organic mulch. The mulching material is harvested by at least three Fresno maintenance gardeners that bring us leaves and grass clippings that might otherwise go to the landfill. As far as I know we are the only growers who make use of this material to the extent we do. The mulch is renewed two or three times per year and has quite a number of advantages. First of all it enriches the soil with the minerals of life, N, P, K, Ca, S, Zn, Mn, Mg, etc., and will, over time, convert these minerals to food and flowers an very close to a pound for pound basis with the mulch when compared to a more or less equal water content.

Putting mulch on the soil greatly enriches its productivity and is a practice available to all without cost. City dwellers could make deals with with gardeners that work in their neighborhoods or even go out with a pushcart checking the green barrels ahead of the trash truck.

You are also invited to visit our website at http://wholesystemsag.org to find out more about this unique system of growing. If you are concerned, as you should be, about resource shortages that will limit food productivity in the years ahead and thereby cause a sharp and very unpleasant reduction in human population, you should check this unique system of more sustainable growing.

Good wishes to all,

John

On this week’s Solari Report, we will talking with Eric Toensmeier about permaculture and how it can help you build wealth - whether improving the fertility of your home and landscape, your child’s school or local community or creating new opportunities for local business and investment.Permaculture is “an approach to designing human settlements and agricultural systems that mimic the relationships found in natural ecologies.” Permaculturists are positive, intelligent and invariably conspiring on projects that are fun, useful and involve wonderful, fresh food.
