Ivan and Rose have lived on their property for 40 years. Previously they gardened quite extensively, but have had to cut back over the years. Rose would like to keep chickens again and has joined the group to that end. Rose requested for each person to find drawings and plans online for mobile chicken coops that appealed to them and to bring them to this meeting. This meeting is only 1 1/2 hours as Rose has a prior commitment at 11:00 a.m. Any help from members to assist her in cleaning up after the meeting would be greatly appreciated.
I haven't heard from Joshua yet, if he will be able to make the meeting, but if you have egg cartons to recycle, please do feel free to bring them.
I've been busy working on the Chicken 101 brochure, so I haven't been sending out meeting notes to keep everyone up to date. Please do consider coming to meetings to stay better informed, I will do my best to update everyone, once the first draft of Chicken 101 is complete.
The Mission of CCLUCK is to advocate and promote universal access to keeping of backyard chickens. Central California Local Urban Chicken Keepers (CCLUCK), was officially organized Memorial weekend 2011, to help educate the community about the benefits of keeping micro-flocks of urban laying hens, and to advocate for changes in local zoning laws to allow and encourage citizens to keep hens in a healthy, responsible manner in their backyards. We believe that food is a universal right. Food that ...is safe, nutritious and fair should be accessible to all, regardless of income.
As large scale agriculture supplies become less certain and safety issues arise, people are turning back to Central Valley roots via backyard cultivation of gardens, mini orchards and the raising of small livestock for their own clean, healthy, and humane sources of food supplies.
Insuring that urban areas have legal rights to raise their own food not only increases self-sufficiency but also insures that the future generations have the knowledge, experience and skills needed to continue to be self-sustaining.
